Nestled at an elevation of 12,000 ft., Dayara Bugyal is a breathtaking alpine meadow boasting panoramic views of Himalayan neighbors such as Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, Shrikhand Mahadev, Srikanth Peak, and Gangotri peaks. Adorned with a rich carpet of wildflowers and surrounded by misty valleys, the trek takes you through dense forests of maple and oak.
The trail unfolds expansive grasslands, alpine lakes, and trickling streams, creating a symphony of nature. Dayara Bugyal’s wondrous grasslands, embraced by the Himalayas, make it an ideal destination for a long weekend trek. Those who venture into this realm of untouched beauty leave with more than they could ever anticipate.
Reaching Dehradun, the gateway to the Kedarkantha Trek, is convenient through various modes of transportation:
Begin your journey from Dehradun railways station, driving towards Raithal village, the trek's base. The scenic route follows the Bhagirathi River to Uttarkashi town, with an option for a morning state transport bus to Uttarkashi. From there, Raithal is another 45 Km via Bhatwari town. Check into the Tourist Rest House or Lodge for an overnight stay.
Embark on the trek after breakfast, ascending through dense alpine forests. The well-paved trail takes you to Odari, where villagers collect leaves and firewood. The forest thickens after Odari, offering occasional glimpses of Raithal through the lush greenery. After a three-hour gradual ascent, reach Gui, a small opening in the forest with shepherd huts by a small lake called Guital.
The trail transforms as you cross Goi, with a significant presence of pine and oak. The ascent gets steeper as you approach Dayara Jungle Camp. The meadow unfolds suddenly, marked by shepherd huts. Spend the day exploring the vast meadow with panoramic views of Draupadi ka Danda I, II, Bandarpoonch, Srikanth, Jaonli, and more. Return before dark, have an early dinner, and rest for the challenging day ahead.
Trek through Dayara Bugyal to Bakriya Top, the highest point of the meadow. The ascent is moderate, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of Bandarpunch, Jaonli, Srikanth, Draupadi ka Danda, Gangotri I, II, Rudragaira, and more. Descend to Dayara Jungle Camp for a filling lunch, then continue to Barnala for the night.
Begin an easy descent to Barsu, taking 2-3 hours. From Barsu, drive back to Dehradun via Bhatwari and Uttarkashi, marking the end of your trekking adventure.
