The Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a thrilling journey with panoramic views of the cow-shaped Gaumukh Glacier, a major source of the sacred Ganges. Revel in breathtaking vistas of the Gangotri peaks, including Shivling, Thalay Sagar, and Meru.
This scenic trek is adorned with nature’s bounty—fragrant flowers, snow-capped peaks, and jaw-dropping landscapes. Participate in the sacred ritual of taking a dip in the holy Bhagirathi River. The trek immerses you in the divine aura of pilgrimage cities like Rishikesh, Uttarkashi, Gangotri, and Bhojwassa. Marvel at the Bhagirathi sisters to witness the summit views.
Reaching Dehradun, the gateway to the Kedarkantha Trek, is convenient through various modes of transportation:
Embark on a scenic 242 km drive from Dehradun to Gangotri via Uttarkashi. The journey takes approximately 7 to 8 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes. Enroute, a stop at Gangnani allows you to experience natural hot water spring baths. Continue the drive to Gangotri, where you'll stay overnight in a comfortable guesthouse.
Commence your trek from Gangotri to Chirbasa (3,650 m). The trail takes you along the Bhagirathi River, offering stunning views. Chirbasa, situated on the tree line, serves as a serene location for a night's rest.
Trek through desolate and barren terrain beyond Chirbasa, often compared to the Arctic Tundra. The trail, surrounded by dense forest, leads to Bhojwassa (3,800 m). Explore the small temple and enjoy the sunset on the Bhagirathi peaks.
Witness the panoramic view of the Bhagirathi peaks in the morning before trekking to Gaumukh (3,890 m), the source of the Ganges. After exploration, continue the steep ascent to Tapovan (4,335 m), a high-altitude alpine meadow with breathtaking views of surrounding peaks. Sadhus and saints choose this spot for meditation during the summer months.
A day for acclimatization and relaxation. Marvel at the snow-capped peaks, diverse flora, fauna, and the mountain landscape. Enjoy the proximity of Shivling, Meru, and Bhagirathi peaks. Visit the Meru Glacier and return to the campsite.
Catch the sunrise on high peaks in the morning, followed by a trek down to Bhojbasa.
Embark on a trek back to Gangotri in the morning. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a guesthouse.
After an early breakfast, commence the drive back to Dehradun. The journey covers 245 km and takes approximately 9 hours, allowing you to reminisce about the spectacular trekking experience. Arrive in Dehradun by evening, concluding this remarkable Gaumukh Tapovan trek.
