Situated within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Sarutal Trek is a captivating journey through meadows and forests, offering unparalleled views of the Himalayan peaks. The trek covers a total distance of 62.5 km on foot and 420 km by taxi, spanning 8 nights and 9 days. The route includes Dehradun, Mussoorie, Sankri, Kedarkantha, Dunda Thach Pustara, and Sarutal.
Reaching Dehradun, the gateway to the Kedarkantha Trek, is convenient through various modes of transportation:
Begin your journey from Dehradun Railway Station early in the morning, driving towards Sankri via Mussoorie and scenic spots like Kempty Fall. Witness the beauty of the Himalayan peaks and the holy Yamuna River along the way. Lunch at Purola Market, and proceed to Sankri for an overnight stay.
Embark on the trek from Sankri to Kedarkantha Base Camp, passing through the mesmerizing Swargarohini Peaks. The trail takes you through pine forests, offering splendid views of Kedarkantha Peak. Enjoy a hot lunch at the campsite and explore the surroundings. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.
Rise early to witness the sunrise from Kedarkantha Summit, a magical experience. After a light breakfast, start the trek to the summit using headlamps. Reach the top (3800 m), explore the temple, and soak in panoramic views. Descend to follow the trail to Dunda Thach, reaching the campsite by evening.
After breakfast, trek to Taloti Thach, passing by a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Parvat, and Ganesha. The trail covers 11 km, with a few steep sections. Set up camps at Taloti Thach, a beautiful meadow with stunning views of the Himalayan peaks.
Experience a mix of ascents and leveled walks, crossing meadows and ridges to reach the pristine Saru Tal. This unique glacial lake offers panoramic views of the Black Peak, Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini Peaks, Bali Pass Trail, and Dhaldhar Kandi Pass. Set up camps near Saru Tal, enjoying the panorama views.
Retrace your steps through meadows and ridges, reaching Taloti Thach. Set up camps and retire for the night.
Descend to Taluka via an easy trail, and then drive to Sankri. Be cautious while descending to avoid ankle injuries. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel/homestay in Sankri.
Bid goodbye to this beautiful destination after breakfast and drive back to Dehradun, reaching by evening.
